BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's outdoor track & field earned five All-ODAC honors Sunday on the opening day of the 2023 Outdoor Championships.
The Hornets had two champions Sunday –
Tucker Kindig in the men's shot put and
Kiara Felston in the women's hammer. Kindig and Felston become the 50
th and 51
st ODAC champions in the program's 12 years of league competition.
IN BRIEF
In addition to those two championships,
Katya Hoover was the runner-up in the women's high jump and
Kaitlin Measell third in the women's long jump.
On the men's side, Kindig was also the runner-up in the hammer throw.
Those three All-ODAC honorees brings the all-time total to 170 for Coach
Andy Marrocco's programs.
After Sunday's six events, the SU men are fifth and the women tied for second in their respective championships. Lynchburg leads both the men's and women's events.
MEN'S RECAP
Kindig's championship and runner-up performances run his career total to 10 All-ODAC accolades.
In the preliminary races,
Matthew Klocke qualified in the 110-meter hurdles,
William Crowder,
Miles Moore, and
Andre Jackson in the 100-meter dash, and Moore and Crowder in the 200 meters.
Ethan Harrower was sixth in the steeplechase,
Jacob Young fifth in the hammer throw,
Elijah West eighth in the long jump to round out the men's place-winners.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Felston's championship is the third of her career after the weight throw titles in both 2022 and 2023 indoor championships.
Measell punched her ticket to the 100-meter finals with a seventh place showing in the preliminary heat Sunday with
Alexis Hubbard finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles to earn her spot in the Monday's final.
Erin Atkinson had a fifth place showing in the steeplechase, Jessica Redfrey seventh in the hammer, and
Madeline Lotts fourth in the 10K to help the women to the T-2 showing.
