LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 3 Shenandoah University baseball team travels Bank of the James Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia this weekend for a best-of-three series versus No. 6 University of Lynchburg in the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regionals.
The series begins with game one Friday at noon. SU (42-8) punched its ticket into the super regionals with four straight wins, including two over No. 10 CNU, last weekend in the Winchester Regional after losing 22-9 in its opening game versus TCNJ. As determined by a pair of coin flips Thursday afternoon, Shenandoah will be the home team in game one and the 'if neccessary' contest.
Coach
Kevin Anderson's club is expected to wear red tops on Friday. SU is 14-1 in the red jerseys this season.

LYN (41-7) defeated N.C. Wesleyan, 5-3, in an if necessary game seven on Sunday in the Rocky Mount Regional to advance to supers.

This is the fifth meeting between the ODAC Hornets this season with Lynchburg winning three of the previous four.

Back on April 23, the two teams split a regular season ODAC doubleheader at
Kevin Anderson Field. The southern Hornets took the first game 3-2 in 10 innings and the northern Hornets responded by winning game two, 6-4.

The two squads met again in the ODAC Tournament as Lynchburg capped off the tournament with an 11-9 win over SU to win the ODAC Championship. Shenandoah held an 8-0 advantage in the game before Lynchburg completed the comeback helped by a seven-run sixth.

SHENANDOAH PLAYERS TO WATCH
Gavin Horning,
Frankie Ritter, and
Pearce Bucher have started in all 50 games for
Kevin Anderson's squad. Horning, an outfielder, leads the team with a .414 batting average.

Ritter and Bucher lead the team in at-bats with 214 and 209, respectively. Bucher has delivered 16 doubles and 46 RBI while Ritter has 20 stolen bases and four triples.

Hitting in the two-hole, designated hitter
Colby Martin has six home runs and a team-high 40 walks drawn. On the base paths Martin has 33 steals in 36 attempts.

Starting on the mound for Shenandoah is
Jacob Faivre and
Jacob Bell. Bell has a 2.42 ERA in 81 2/3 innings pitched and has one complete game this season.

Faivre leads the team with 92 strikeouts and has the opposition hitting just .220 off of him.

The leading relievers for SU are
Parker Farrington, Tristian Everett,
Matt House, and
Brian Ferreira. Farrington came out of the bullpen in back-to-back days last weekend as he picked up two saves, helping SU clinch the regional championship and earning himself a spot on the all-tournament team.

Behind the plate for SU is
Brody Pickette, Dillion Partin,
Tyler Blittersdorf, and
Jake Troutner. Coach Anderson has used the rotation of catchers all year long with Pickette, Partin, and Blittersdorf each starting at least 15 games.
LYNCHBURG PLAYERS TO WATCH
Gavin Collins, Avery Neaves, and Carrson Atkins are the top hitters for the 2023 ODAC Champions.

Neaves has seven home runs, 52 RBI, and bats .305. Benton Jones is the only player on Lynchburg with more homers than Neaves.

Jones and fellow first-year player Brandon Garcia have a combined 93 hits for 64 RBI as they provide young power to a program with 19 seniors/graduate students.

2023 ODAC Pitcher of the Year Jack Bachmore and Zack Potts are the two aces on the mound for head coach Lucas Jones.

Bachmore has an 8-1 record with an ERA of 1.64 in 71 1/3 innings pitched. Potts has pitched 98 innings and has a 10-0 record. The pair each have 85 strikeouts while Bachmore posting 11 saves.

Bank of James Stadium is home to the Lynchburg Hillcats, the MiLB single-A affiliate of the MLB Cleveland Guardians. The park previously hosted the D-III regionals in 2022.
