Griffith Promoted to Head Athletic Trainer

Former Volleyball Standout Takes Top Spot

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Bridget Lyons announced Monday the promotion of Katy Griffith '13, '16 to head athletic trainer.
 
Griffith joined the staff in August 2022 as an assistant athletic trainer after serving in the same role for six years at nearby DII Shepherd University.
 
One month after her arrival at Shenandoah, the former volleyball standout was promoted to associate head trainer.
 
Noah Climer '22, Dr. Noelle Haller, and Brannon Zochert continue their roles as assistant athletic trainers with Griffith at the helm.
 
In addition to her role as the head athletic trainer, Griffith serves as the primary AT for the football, women's basketball, and women's lacrosse teams.
 
"As an alum of this university and athletics department, I am thoroughly excited to take on this position!," Griffith said. "The athletic training department has done some great things since August and I can not wait to see what lies ahead for us!"

"I am thrilled.," Dr. Lyons said when asked about Griffith's transition to the new role. "She has the leadership and vision to have a positive impact on our Sports Medicine program."

Griffith, who has been serving as the interim head AT since March, starts her new duties immediately.
