Martin Signs With Padres

Shenandoah University right-handed pitcher/middle infielder Colby Martin signed a free agent deal with the San Diego Padres Tuesday afternoon after the conclusion of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.

In 2021, Martin was named a D3Baseball.com/ABCA first team All-American, D3Baseball.com/ABCA South Region Player of the Year, first team all-state, and ODAC Player of the Year.

The Lititz, Pennsylvania, native was named a pre-season first team All-American in 2022 but missed the season due to injury.

As a junior, Martin bounced back from injury in 2023 and earned all-region and All-America accolades by D3Baseball.com/ABCA.

On the mound, the righty had 16 career strikeouts in just 9 1/3 innings pitched with four career saves. At the plate, he batted .433 across two seasons with 11 home runs and 105 RBIs.

Martin is the fifth SU pitcher since 2016 to be signed or drafted by an MLB team, joining Phil Morse '16, Darrell Thompson '16, Colin Morse '18, and Robert Klinchock '19.
