No. 25 Field Hockey Stopped by No. 2 Johns Hopkins

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 25 Shenandoah University field hockey was defeated, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Aikens Stadium by No. 2 Johns Hopkins University.

The Blue Jays (2-0) saved a late-game penalty stroke, before adding one final goal, in their win over the Hornets (1-1).

IN BRIEF
The Hornets' defense stood tall in the first quarter, as the Blue Jays applied pressure throughout the first 15 minutes. Goalie Taylor Swann made three saves in the first frame, she ended up saving seven shots in total.

With five minutes left in the second, JHU's Grace Waldeck got a shot on goal that was redirected to the stick of Emily Amsden, who ended up finding the back of the net with her shot. Johns Hopkins took the 1-0 lead into the half.

Shenandoah came out in the third and applied pressure of its own, gaining four corners in the quarter. It would be a corner that led to the only goal of the game for SU. Farren Winter found teammate Elizabeth Ranberger for the Shenandoah goal, tying the game.

Shenandoah outshot the No. 2 team in the third, 4-3.

In the fourth, Jenna Haplin scored for the Blue Jays to give them the eventual game-winner. Following the JHU goal, SU worked its way into the offensive circle and picked up a penalty stroke opportunity.

The Hornets aimed for the right side of the net on the stroke, but Blue Jays goalie Alexis Loder reached out and got the critical save. Minutes later, Johns Hopkins added a third goal, scored by Siena Urbanski, to seal the victory.
