FERRUM, Va. – The Shenandoah University wrestling team was back on the mat as they continued their conference schedule with a dual with the Panthers from Ferrum. The Panthers (4-3, 1-1) came away with the 35-15 over the Hornets (1-6, 0-4) Saturday evening.
Ferrum took the 125-pound bout via tech fall before picking up wins at 133 and 141 since the Hornets did not have a wrestler at those weights.
Manny Lucas picked up one of the Hornets three wins in the match with an 11-6 decision over Perry Roller. Ferrum got the win at 157, but then
Jalen Cornelius got a win via fall at the 2:51 mark of the match, to pull Shenandoah closer with the score 21-9. Ferrum kept the momentum going picking up a decision win at 174.
Hunter Thompson, at 184 pounds, picked up a first-round win via fall at 2:41 for his 15
th win of the season and fourth via fall.
George Vrachnos jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first with a take down and four back points at 197 pounds, unfortunately, Vrachnos couldn't secure the win and fell via pinfall. Ferrum picked up the final win at 285 with a tech fall victory to secure the win.
