Men's Basketball Pulls Away in Comeback Win at EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team took home an ODAC win on Wednesday night, 65-56, at Eastern Mennonite University.

The Hornets (14-5, 5-5 ODAC) pulled ahead in the second half against the Royals (5-14, 1-10) after trailing by 10 in the first half.

RECAP

SU started hot with a three by Joseph Baldwin on its first shot of the game to take a 3-2 lead early. EMU responded with two made threes as they began to pull ahead early in the first half.

The home team took a seven-point lead before the Hornets went back to the long ball with a made shot by Davion Roberts to cut the deficit to four. For the next five minutes, the defense played strong for both sides as EMU went on a miniature 6-2 run, pulling ahead by 10.

Shenandoah trailed by eight with just over four minutes left in the opening half. Back-to-back threes from Jaylen Williams and Roberts helped the Hornets start a 14-6 run to close the half. Coming off the bench, Landon Russ knocked down another three for SU with under a minute left of the first, tying the game at 32 at the half.

The Royals made another deep shot to regain the lead, but it didn't last long as Nic Pullum pulled off an and-one to tie the game again. The ODAC foes traded baskets as the Royals took their final lead of the night, 46-43.

Shenandoah jumped ahead by seven points with under eight minutes left in the game as they held EMU scoreless for nearly five minutes. SU, who made 12 threes throughout the game, knocked down three consecutive deep balls from Evan Makle and Williams. Buckets from Binwi Bihai and Roberts helped SU take a 15-point advantage with less than five minutes to go.

The lead was too much for the Royals to handle as the Hornets took the win.

Roberts (14), Williams (14), and Makle (11) led Shenandoah in scoring during the win. Makle led the team in blocks with two, Roberts had a team-high of eight rebounds, and Williams carried the team with seven assists.
