LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball picked up another conference victory on the road Wednesday night with a 69-59 win over Randolph College. The Hornets (16-4, 11-2 ODAC) were led by
Maddie Kimble with 18 points on 3-16 shooting from the field, 2-6 from deep, but 10-12 from the charity stripe.
Kayla Maxson and
Terese Greene both had 13 points, with Maxson's points coming off the bench going 5-9 from the floor and 3-5 from deep in nine minutes of play.
Shawnise Campbell was the other Hornet in double-digits with 10 points on a 3-5 performance from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the line.
With the WildCats jumping out to an early 2-0 lead just over 30 seconds into the game,
Terese Greene put the Hornets in front with a triple at the 8:00-minute mark followed by baskets from
Gabby Krystofiak and
Shawnise Campbell putting Shenandoah up five with six minutes left in the quarter.
Sydney Shepos hit a jumper to give the Hornets an 11-8 lead, but Randolph went on an 8-0 run with two threes to take a 16-11 lead with just over a minute left.
Kayla Maxson drilled her first three coming off the bench for the Hornets' final basket of the quarter to pull back within two points, but Shenandoah surrendered one final basket and found themselves down 18-14 heading to the second.
Jessica Jennings, from Randolph, hit an early three to give the WildCats their biggest of the game at seven with the score 21-14, but
Maddie Kimble and
Terese Greene answered with a 5-0 run of their own, making it a two-point game. Kimble's four-straight free throws and then a layup from
Shawnise Campbell and the Hornets were back in front leading 25-24.
Sydney Shepos picked up an offensive rebound and then put the ball back up for a putback-layup giving the Hornets the lead once again. Randolph used a 6-0 run before Kimble hit another free throw, a jumper from
Kayla Maxson, and then back-to-back threes from Kimble and Maxson tied the game at 36 going into the half.
Maddie Kimble's three in the third put the Hornets back up 39-38 and Shenandoah would not surrender the lead after that.
Emily Williams' layup (41-38) and a free throw and layup from
Terese Greene put the Hornets up 44-38 with just under eight minutes to play in the period. The Randolph defense made it difficult for the Hornets at times in the quarter holding Shenandoah scoreless for three minutes until Kimble and Greene converted their free throws.
Kayla Maxson scored the final five points of the quarter as the Hornets took a 54-47 into the final quarter.
Maggie Rooklin pushed the lead back up to nine points with her jumper to start the fourth quarter, and Campbell's field goal made it a double-digit lead at 58-48. Randolph attempted to make a late run but Rooklin's three and clutch free throw shooting from the Hornets secured the 69-59 win.

The Hornets are back in action at home on Saturday as they will go for the season sweep over Averett. Before the game, the Hornets will recognize their seniors for their accomplishments on and off the court. Tipoff for that game will be at 2 pm.
