WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah women's basketball team was back at home and continuing conference play against Ferrum College. Shenandoah picked up the 54-32 win over the Panthers behind 17 points from
Maddie Kimble, 14 points from
Terese Greene, and 11 points from
Shawnise Campbell. With her 13 rebounds, Campbell added another double-double to her fantastic season. With the win, the Hornets improved to 11-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play with six wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maddie Kimble got the scoring going for Shenandoah when the senior drilled a triple 14 seconds into the game. Just over two minutes later,
Shawnise Campbell put the Hornets back on top with a layup off a pass from
Emily Williams. With 2:39 left in the first quarter, Ferrum took a one-point lead, but after a three by
Kayla Maxson hit her first three of the game, followed by a deep ball from
Terese Greene to push the lead 15-10. Ferrum scored a layup with just over a minute to go in the first, but Greene poured in another shot and Shenandoah took a 17-14 lead into the second.
The Hornet defense picked up the intensity in the second and third quarters holding the Panthers to four points in the second quarter and six points in the third quarter.
Shawnise Campbell once again got the offense rolling for Shenandoah on a layup with the assist coming from
Emily Williams before Campbell scored her second basket of the period. A pair free throws from
Maddie Kimble pushed the lead back to eight at 23-15.
Maddie Kimble hit another jumper for Shenandoah and the rest of the Hornets' points came from the charity stripe with Shenandoah taking a 10-point lead into the break, 28-18.
The combination of
Maddie Kimble and
Terese Greene scored the first nine points of the second half before
Kayla Maxson knocked down a jumper at the 1:15 mark of the third to push the lead to 17 points. The Hornets struggled at the start of the fourth quarter to get on the board, with their first points coming halfway through the period when
Shawnise Campbell converted an and-one with 5:51 left on the clock giving SU a 42-27. Ferrum attempted to make a late run to get back into the game, but the Hornets lead was too large to overcome.
Emily Williams rounded out the scoring for Shenandoah with a layup with just under a minute to play and Shenandoah took the game 54-32 to remain perfect in the conference.
