Eastern Overcomes Men's Basketball in Second Half Surge

WINCHESTER, Va.- The Shenandoah University men's basketball team wrapped up the Winchester Sports Medicine Team Tip-Off Classic with a hard-fought 73-60 loss against Eastern University on Sunday afternoon at home.

The Hornets (0-2) held the lead for much of the first half and entered halftime up 37-33. However, the Eagles (2-0) mounted a strong second-half comeback, seizing control in the final minutes to secure the win.

RECAP

Shenandoah came out strong, demonstrating significant improvement from Saturday's performance. The Hornets shot 40.5% (15-37) in the first half, including four three-pointers. After Eastern opened the scoring, Joseph Baldwin responded with a three-pointer, igniting the Hornets' offense. Marcus Nesmith followed suit, draining a three to give SU a 10-7 lead five minutes into the game.

The Hornets built their largest lead of the contest—a seven-point cushion—midway through the first half. Dorian Davis' layup, followed by a defensive steal and offensive rebound from Joshua Stephen, put Shenandoah up 25-18.

Although Eastern briefly regained the lead late in the half, Shamir Taylor's clutch three-pointer and a tip-in layup from Davis ensured the Hornets entered the locker room with a four-point advantage.

In the second half, the two teams traded baskets and momentum. Shenandoah extended its lead to seven at the 11:52 mark, but Eastern capitalized on a series of miscues, including a technical foul, to chip away and eventually tie the game with eight minutes remaining. From there, the Eagles surged ahead, using a pivotal three-pointer to break a 58-58 tie and maintain control through the final buzzer.

Joseph Baldwin led Shenandoah with a standout double-double, tallying 17 points and 11 rebounds. Davis contributed 15 points and tied for the team lead with two assists, while Nesmith added seven points.

The Hornets dominated the boards, outrebounding Eastern 47-35, including 23 offensive rebounds.
