ARLINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team celebrated a milestone victory Wednesday night, defeating the Marymount Saints 64-36 to secure their first win of the season and their first-ever victory in Arlington. This marks only the second time in program history that the Hornets have triumphed over Marymount.
Shenandoah (1-2) showcased an exceptional team performance, led by
Shawnise Campbell, who delivered a standout effort with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, seven rebounds, a block, and an assist.
Terese Greene, averaging 30 points per game entering the contest, added 14 points, five rebounds, and an impressive five steals. The Hornets' depth was on full display, as 10 of the 14 players who saw action contributed to the scoring column.
Defensively, Shenandoah overwhelmed the Saints, holding them to 27% shooting from the field and just 18% from three-point range. The Hornets capitalized offensively by shooting a remarkable 51% in the first half and 45% overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets opened the game with a commanding 10-0 run, holding the Saints scoreless for over three minutes. Emily Williams started the scoring, followed by an offensive burst from Campbell, who added six points, including a converted and-one. Greene's lone three-pointer of the night pushed the lead to double digits, and a buzzer-beating three from Jessica Littlejohn gave Shenandoah a commanding 20-7 lead after the first quarter.
Shenandoah's relentless defense and efficient offense carried into the second quarter. The Hornets rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 41-21 lead into halftime, highlighted by Campbell and Greene dominating in transition and the paint.
Coming out of halftime, Shenandoah silenced Marymount with an 8-0 run to start the third quarter, capped by baskets from Campbell and Littlejohn. The Hornets' stifling defense limited the Saints to just eight points in the frame, while the offense methodically extended the lead to 51-29 heading into the fourth.
The Hornets' depth shone in the final quarter. First-year player
Skai Bayless and sophomore Regan Smith added key contributions, while Campbell continued her dominance in the paint. Shenandoah held the Saints to just seven points in the final 10 minutes, closing out the game with a commanding 64-36 victory.

After three road games to start the season, the Hornets return to Winchester for their home opener this Friday night. Shenandoah will face Wilson College at the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Events Center, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
