Volleyball Bested by Bridgewater

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team lost its final ODAC home match of the season, 3-0, against Bridgewater College on Wednesday night.

The Hornets (12-13, 3-8 ODAC) kept the first set tight, falling 28-26 before the Eagles (20-6, 9-2) took the final two sets in decisive fashion.

RECAP

The first frame featured 16 ties and six lead changes and it was the Eagles taking the first lead. A Bridgewater attack error helped SU gain its first lead of the evening at 4-3. As the teams battled back and forth, Shenandoah pulled ahead by three on a Kylie Danella ace.

The Eagles came right back on a 3-0 run and tied the set once again at 14. A 4-0 run pushed BC in front 22-19 and an ace gave them set point, 24-20. Kills by Regan Minney, Amber Shifflett, and Hannah Hylton rallied the Hornets back into the set as the teams drew even at 24.

Bridgewater went back in front, 25-24, but consecutive kills from Cheyenne Price gave the Hornets a one-point advantage and set point. Unfortunately, BC came right back with three straight points to take the opening set.

In the second set, an ace by Autumn Stroop put SU in the lead, 3-2. Bridgewater then opened up the set and took a 15-8 lead. A 10-0 run by the visitors ended the set and put them up 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, Bridgewater quickly went up 6-1 and kept Shenandoah from holding the lead in the final set. The Eagles won the third set, 25-17.

Hylton led the team with 11 kills as Vanessa Rodriguez's 13 assists led the team. Hylton had the lone block for the Hornets and defensively Minney and Stroop matched each other for a team-high 11 digs.
