WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team celebrated their conference home opener with an impressive 66-53 victory over Randolph College on Saturday afternoon. The win extends the Hornets' unbeaten streak in ODAC play and showcased a dominant performance from several key players.
Terese Greene once again led the charge, posting a game-high 23 points. The senior guard was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and added eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals to her stat line. Greene, who currently leads the ODAC in scoring with a 22.9-point average, continues to be a consistent force for the Hornets. Gabby Krystofiak followed with 13 points on a stellar 6-for-8 shooting performance, including a three-pointer. She added two rebounds, two steals, and a block to contribute on both ends of the court. Maddie Kimble and Shawnise Campbell added 10 points each, while Emily Williams nearly broke a program record with 19 rebounds, tying for third-most in a single game in Shenandoah history.
The Hornets dished out 20 assists in the game, emphasizing teamwork and efficiency on offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The WildCats struck first with an early three-pointer, but Shenandoah quickly responded with a commanding 10-0 run. Emily Williams sparked the offense with a jumper, followed by a three-pointer from Greene and layups from Krystofiak and Kimble. Randolph regrouped to tie the game late in the first quarter, but a flurry of baskets from Williams, Campbell, and Krystofiak gave Shenandoah a slim 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter until Kimble broke the drought with two free throws at the 7:05 mark. Krystofiak nailed a clutch three-pointer moments later to extend the lead. Greene and Kimble combined for a 7-0 run to push Shenandoah ahead by 11 points, and the Hornets held a 30-25 advantage at halftime.
Shenandoah took control in the third quarter, outscoring Randolph 21-16. Krystofiak opened the half with consecutive layups before Greene rattled off nine straight points, including an and-one that brought the crowd to its feet. The Hornets carried a 10-point cushion into the fourth quarter.
Randolph attempted to rally in the final period, cutting the deficit to six points, but Shenandoah responded with poise. Contributions from Campbell and Greene helped the Hornets pull away late, sealing the victory with key free throws and timely baskets.
UP NEXT
The Hornets will take a brief break before heading to the Captains Clash Tournament hosted by Christopher Newport University on December 18. They will face Asbury University (Ky.) in the opening round, with their next opponent to be determined based on the results.
