Men's Basketball Falls to Ferrum, Enters ODAC Tournament as the Eight Seed

Hornets to host first round game on Monday night.

FERRUM, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team wrapped up the 2023-24 regular season with an 84-59 loss at Ferrum College on Saturday in an ODAC game. The Hornets (16-9, 7-9 ODAC) will host an ODAC Tournament first round game on Monday at 7 p.m. for the first time ever.

The Panthers (15-10, 6-10) evened up the season series with SU with their win after outscoring SU in both halves by at least 10 points.

RECAP
Ferrum jumped out to a 10-3 lead after Shenandoah initially tied the game 2-2 with a Nic Pullum layup. Joshua Stephen added the Hornets' third point with a free throw.

Two three-pointers from Marcus NeSmith brought SU back within four points, trailing 13-9. Shenandoah continued its run with an Evan Makle jumper to cut the deficit to one possession. The Panthers' defense didn't let SU get that close again for the remainder of the game as their offense helped them take a double-digit lead with seven minutes left in the first half.

Joshua Stephen and Jaylen Williams scored first for SU in the second half as SU looked to overcome a 15-point halftime deficit.

After Williams' basket, the Panthers pulled further away from the Hornets with a 12-2 run. Trailing by 23 with 12:00 left, the deficit was too much for SU to overcome as Ferrum took the win.

Shenandoah had 10 different players with points in the game, NeSmith led the Hornets with 10 points, a career-high.
