Women's Lacrosse Wins Battle of the ODAC Hornets

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team scored 19 goals for the sixth time this season in a 19-10 ODAC win at the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday evening.

After LYN (9-6, 5-2 ODAC) scored to cut its deficit to 2-1 early in the game, the SU (11-3, 6-2) offense exploded for 10 more first half goals to go up at the break, 11-5. Shenandoah continued the pressure in the final two quarters for eight more goals, with Ainsley Buckner leading all players with five goals in the contest.

RECAP

  • The first shot of the game resulted in a Shenandoah goal from Kate Vendemia less than two and a half minutes into the game. Emily Lerch won the next draw control which led to another Venmedima shot, which went wide. Shenandoah kept control of the ball and Lerch was able to get a shot on net, which was saved but directly led to a goal from Ainsley Buckner on an assist from Madison Re.
  • Following Lynchburg's first goal of the game, SU went back to Lerch for two straight goals from the senior, with Sofia Albi gaining the helper on the first goal. The home Hornets added another goal but the visitors made it 6-2 at the end of the first with goals from Emily Ransom and Gabriella Raspanti.
  • After getting an assist in the first, Albi took a chance at scoring and connected with the netting for a five-goal advantage for SU. Buckner got the assist on the Albi goal and went straight back into the assist column after Raspanti made it 8-2. Four minutes later, Buckner scored, putting Shenandoah up 9-3.
  • Lynchburg scored two more goals but sandwiched between the LYN goals, Amy Bell gained her 20th goal of the 2024 season. Towards the end of the second, sophomore, Haley Sullivan made it 11-5 and first-year Alex Ripkin scored her 18th goal of the season, putting SU up by seven at the half.
  • Shenandoah started the third quarter on a scoring tear, racking up three quick goals from the sticks of Buckner and Bell, as Buckner scored the first pair of second half goals. After that, the scoring slowed down in the third quarter with Buckner scoring the only other goal in the frame for SU. Shenandoah led 16-7 at the end of the third.
  • Shenandoah got even more help from first-year Cameryn Bowker who was able to score her first two collegiate goals in the fourth. Bowker's goals were assisted by Albi and Raspanti. SU capped off its evening with Bell's third goal of the game.
  • Goalie Madison Perry played all 60 minutes of the game and made seven save in the win.
  • With Bowker getting her first two goals of the season today, Shenandoah has now had 17 different goal scorers this season which is the most for the program since the 2017 season, when they had 18 different players with a goal.
