WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team celebrated and honored the careers of the senior class of 2024 by welcoming York College of Pennsylvania to town for a non-conference game on Monday. The Hornets (25-14) dropped the contest 21-10 to the Spartans on a beautiful day for baseball.
Parker Farrington got the start for the Hornets and went the first 2.1 innings and gave up six hits and six runs. The last three pitchers the Hornets threw, gave up only one hit while striking out three batters and not giving up any runs.
Daulton Stewart and
Cameron Carrow were the only Hornets with multiple hits, Stewart with three including a home run, and Carrow with two and a home run. The Hornets had 12 hits in the game and seven of them were for extra bases.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Parker Farrington got the start on senior day for the Hornets and gave up a lead off single. Farrington walked the next batter to put two runners on with nobody out. A single to left loaded the bases for the Spartans. Farrington got the first out of the game on a strikeout-looking, but a single up the middle scored the first run for the Spartans. A ground ball to Ballenger got the Hornets out of the inning.
- Frankie Ritter led the first off for the Hornets with a walk before Jackson Foreman just missed extra bases with a line out to right center. York got out of the inning with a strikeout and a fielder's choice to maintain their 1-0 lead.
- Farrington settled down in the second as he retired the side in order with ease.
- Connor Houser led the inning off with an infield single but was erased as Dillon Partin was robbed of a hit up the middle. The Hornets could not muster anything else in the inning as they still trailed 1-0.
- Farrington stayed out to start the third for the Hornets and hit the first batter with a pitch, he then promptly picked him off, before walking the next batter. A single to center field put two runners on with an out. The two runners advanced on a wild pitch before Farrington walked the bases loaded. A single through the left side scored two runners as the Spartans increased their lead to 3-0. A double to right center brought home two more runners for the Spartans and Luke Lageman took over for Farrington. Back-to-back singles to right field brought home another run and put runners on first and second. Lageman got a ground ball to third, as both runners moved into scoring position. Another single to right field scored two more runs, but then Lageman got the final out on a fly out to right.
- Jeremy Kwolek led the third off with a single to right field. Cameron Carrow drilled a double down the left field line as the Hornets had two runners in scoring position. Frankie Ritter crushed a ball that one-hopped the fence and just missed being a home run by feet as the Hornets got on the board. Furtado hit a chopper to second as Carrow crossed the plate and Ritter moved to third. The Hornets went to the fourth trailing 8-2.
- The fourth started with back-to-back doubles from York as the lead increased to 9-2. Lageman hit the next batter as there were now two runners on with nobody out. A single up the middle loaded the bases, before giving way to Blake Loughran. Loughran hit the first two batters he faced before a sac fly to right was the first out of the inning. Loughran got back-to-back sac flies before picking up a strikeout to end the inning.
- The Hornets were retired in order in their half of the fourth inning and trailed 13-2.
- The Spartans loaded the bases in the fifth with a hit by pitch and two singles, before an infield fly was the first out of the inning. A ground-rule double brought two more runners home before Stephen Lencz took over for the Hornets. The first batter Lencz faced singled to bring home another run making the score 16-2, but then got the next two batters to end the inning.
- The Hornets were retired in order in their half of the fifth.
- York added two more runs, after drawing a one-out walk, but a home run to left field cleared the bases making it 18-2.
- Daulton Stewart entered as a pinch hitter for Chandler Ballenger, before eventually taking over at first base defensively. In his first at-bat, Stewart singled to left center but was stranded on base.
- The Spartans added their final three runs of the game after the first two batters reached with back-to-back singles. Lencz got the next batter to fly out to right field, but then gave up a home run to left. Dominic Pancione took over for Lencz and got the Hornets out of the inning.
- The Hornets started the comeback in the seventh. Jake Troutner walked to lead off the inning before Andrew Falk singled to right field and Troutner advanced to third. Troutner scored on a wild pitch. Jeremy Kwolek walked to put runners on first and second with no one out. Cameron Carrow then skied a ball to left field that just kept carrying and drifted over the fence for a three-run shot. Jackson Foreman drew a walk to keep the rally going before Zach Furtado reached on a fielder's choice. Daulton Stewart singled for the second straight at bat. Jackson Simko then crushed a ball that one hopped the fence for a ground-rule double to score Furtado.
- Samuel Vandrey took over for Pancione and worked around a one-out walk to retire the side with no damage.
- Carrow was hit by a pitch in the eighth but the Hornets could not bring him home.
- Ayden Shadle took over for Vandrey and loaded the bases, but was able to get out of the jam without giving up any runs.
- Jackson Foreman led the ninth off with a ground rule double. Zach Furtado crushed a ball to center field to score Foreman. Daulton Stewart then went back-to-back with Furtado and hit a ball equally as far and hard to left for a solo shot. The comeback ended there as York got the final three outs to end the game.

The Hornets wrap up the regular season tomorrow on the road when they take on Marymount at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. Capital One Park is where the ODAC Tournament will be taking place.
