LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University Hornets got back on the winning side with a 22-3 win over the Randolph WildCats. Shenandoah (7-5, 3-2) were led offensively by
Dylan Foughty who had four goals and an assist.
Logan Clingerman and
Austin Sydnor each had a hat trick with Clingerman also picking up three assists and Sydnor with one.
Matt Daniel,
Stephen Graham, and
Luke Petrie all had two goals and also had helpers on other Hornet goals.
Clark Harrity,
Bradley Holt,
Ryan Therkorn,
Jet Hayes,
Dylan Pencek all had a goal for Shenandoah while
Bruce Nyandemo picked up his first collegiate goal.
Mark Isabelle got the start in the net for the Hornets and made two saves while giving up a goal in the first half.
Jack Dwyer started the third quarter for the Hornets and recorded two saves and gave up no goals, while
Ryan Feldman played the fourth and surrendered two goals but also came up with a save. The Hornets dominated all facets of the game including faceoffs. Shenandoah won 24-29 faceoffs on the day with
Ryan Therkorn going 9-9,
Austin Galler going 6-8, and
Jason Forchetti going 9-12. With their efforts today,
Logan Clingerman is now only five points away from 200 career points while
Stephen Graham and
Matt Daniel are one point away from 100 career points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hornets won the opening faceoff and quickly went down the field and Clark Harrity fired the first shot that went high of the cage. Then it was Logan Clingerman who found the back of the cage for the first time off an assist from Stephen Graham.
- Randolph tried to capitalize off a Hornets turnover, but the defense did not allow for an offensive possession. Two more shots and another forced turnover for the Hornets and they pushed their lead to 2-0 on Luke Petrie's first of the game, off an assist from Clingerman.
- Shenandoah fired seven more shots on the WildCat keeper before they broke through with their third of the first quarter. This time Matt Daniel was the newest Hornet to find the back of the cage off another assist from Clingerman.
- Off a Hornet faceoff violation, Randolph could not capitalize as Shenandoah forced another turnover and quickly pressured the WildCats' goalie with three more shots before scoring the fourth of the game by Clark Harrity.
- Jason Forchetti won the ensuing faceoff and off the Dylan Pencek groundball, Matt Daniel made it a 5-0 game.
- Forchetti won another faceoff before Austin Sydnor scored his first making it a 6-0 game.
- Forchetti won his third straight faceoff and Logan Clingerman scored again off the assist from Matt Daniel to make it 7-0. Shenandoah scored four goals over the span of 1:08 to end the quarter, as they fired four more shots on frame with one hitting the post and the Randolph goalie making a save.
- Ryan Therkorn won the opening faceoff in the second for Shenandoah and the Hornets continue to put pressure on Randolph as Austin Sydnor scored his second of the game to make it 8-0.
- It only took 37 seconds for the Hornets to go on to score four more goals to make it a 12-0 game. The Hornets got goals from Stephen Graham, Logan Clingerman, Luke Petrie from Clingerman, and Dylan Pencek.
- Although the WildCats won the ensuing faceoff, the Hornets forced a shot clock violation, and another turnover. Bryan Berryhill riffled a shot that was saved, but the rebound kicked out to Austin Sydnor who picked it up the groundball and scored.
- Dylan Foughty missed on his first opportunity, but capitalized on his next chance and buried his first of the game.
- The Hornets forced another turnover and fired four more shots before Dylan Foughty scored his second of the game as the lead ballooned to 15-0 with under seven to play in the half.
- Randolph got one back with just over six minutes to play in the half, but the Hornets took advantage of a third faceoff violation, with a man-up opportunity, Graham scored again off an assist from Matt Daniel.
- With 4:12 remaining in the half, Bradley Holt got in on the scoring action off an assist from Austin Sydnor.
- With the Hornets comfortably leading 17-1 at the half, Dylan Foughty scored on the opening possession for Shenandoah in the second half.
- With 7:23 left in the third, and the Hornets continuing to pressure, Foughty scored his second of the quarter.
- Jet Hayes got his second of the year off an assist from Luke Petrie as the lead increased to 20-1 with 22 seconds left in the third.
- Randolph got their second of the game with 10:45 left in the fourth as Shenandoah still led by 18 goals.
- Off the ensuing faceoff, Ryan Therkorn took the faceoff and ran straight down the middle to push it back to a 19-goal lead.
- After some nifty passing and working around the offense, Bruce Nyandemo scored the first goal of his collegiate career off an assist from Foughty.
- With just over 2 minutes left in the fourth, Randolph beat Ryan Feldman to score their third goal of the game.
- As the Hornets forced another turnover, Luke Petrie got the final groundball and the clock ran out with a final score of 22-3.
