Men's Basketball Downed by Virginia Wesleyan, 88-62

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team fell to (RV) Virginia Wesleyan University, 88–62, in ODAC action on Wednesday night at home.

The Hornets (6-12, 1-8 ODAC) kept the game close for much of the first half, trailing by just one possession with 6:17 remaining. However, 16 made three-pointers helped the Marlins (14-3, 7-1 ODAC) pull away for the victory.

RECAP

Following a quiet opening minute, Shenandoah and Virginia Wesleyan traded three-pointers early in the game. Joshua Stephen scored six consecutive points for the Hornets, putting SU ahead 9-6 just four minutes in. That lead was short-lived, as the Marlins responded with a 14–2 run.

A dunk by John Allen and a three-pointer from Landon Russ brought the Hornets back within one point with 7:34 remaining in the first half.

Virginia Wesleyan scored on consecutive possessions, but Gavin Bizyak kept the Hornets close with a basket, cutting the deficit to a one-possession game. The Marlins closed the half on an 11-4 run, punctuated by their seventh three-pointer of the period with 29 seconds remaining, to take a nine-point lead into the break.

The Marlins opened the second half with a layup to extend their lead to 11, and the margin remained in double digits for the rest of the game. Virginia Wesleyan shot 57.9% from the field and converted over half of their three-point attempts, with all but eight of their points coming from the paint or beyond the arc.

Dorian Davis led the Hornets with 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Kendrick Robinson tied for the game-high with seven rebounds.
