WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University wrestling team narrowly fell to Ferrum College in a conference dual on Saturday evening, losing 27-20.
The Hornets (3-7, 1-3 ODAC) earned four victories during the dual, including key wins from Sean Rinebolt (141), Jalen Cornelius (165), Dylan Weaver (174), and Tyler Tarallo (197).
Sean Rinebolt got the Hornets on the scoreboard with a 7-3 decision victory at 141 pounds. Jalen Cornelius followed with a critical win at 165 pounds, pinning his opponent in the second period (3:34) to cut the deficit to 18-10.
Dylan Weaver continued Shenandoah's momentum at 174 pounds, securing a dominant 17-2 technical fall. Although he narrowly missed earning a victory by fall, his efforts brought the Hornets within four points, 18-14. Additionally, Ferrum was penalized with a team point deduction for unsportsmanlike conduct, narrowing the gap to 17-14.
Ferrum regained control with a fall victory at 184 pounds before Tyler Tarallo responded with an emphatic first-round pin (1:22) at 197 pounds. His victory brought the Hornets back within three points at 23-20, setting up a dramatic finish.
The dual came down to the heavyweight matchup, where Rives Hargis faced Rayshawn Dixon. Despite Hargis' determined effort, Dixon proved too strong, earning a major decision (9-0) to clinch the 27-20 victory for Ferrum.
This close contest marked Shenandoah's best-ever performance against Ferrum in the program's young history.
