GREENSBORO, NC – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team (7-4, 3-1) faced a tough road contest to kick off the new year, falling to Guilford College 66-54 in their first conference setback of the season. Despite the loss, senior guard
Terese Greene led the Hornets with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Greene went 5-for-18 from the field, connected on one of four attempts from beyond the arc, and was stellar from the free-throw line, hitting six of seven shots. Her all-around performance kept the Hornets competitive in stretches of the game, but Shenandoah struggled offensively as a team, shooting just 31% from the field (22-71) and 6% from three-point range (1-16).
Maddie Kimble contributed eight points and added a team-high three assists, despite enduring a challenging shooting night (3-15).
Addisyn Banks brought efficiency in the paint, scoring eight points on 4-for-9 shooting and adding four rebounds.
Emily Williams balanced scoring and rebounding with seven points and seven boards.
Shawnise Campbell provided a strong presence inside, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds to go with her six points. In contrast, the Guilford Quakers (8-2, 4-0) were much more efficient offensively, shooting 39% from the field (23-59) and 40% from beyond the arc (8-20). Their defensive pressure and scoring runs in key moments ultimately proved too much for the Hornets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game began as a closely contested affair, with Shenandoah taking its first lead after Greene's bucket off a feed from Gabby Krystofiak. Despite a 7-0 run from Guilford late in the first quarter, the Hornets managed to keep the deficit within single digits, trailing 17-10.
Shenandoah's offensive struggles became more apparent in the second quarter, as they were held scoreless for a critical four-minute stretch. Guilford capitalized with a 9-0 run, extending their lead to 12. The Hornets battled back with buckets from Greene, Williams, and Banks but entered halftime down 33-21.
In the third quarter, the Hornets showed flashes of resilience, cutting the lead to 10 points at one point, thanks to a balanced attack from Greene, Banks, and Krystofiak. However, Guilford's timely three-point shooting helped them maintain a comfortable double-digit lead heading into the final period.
Despite a spirited effort in the fourth quarter, including contributions from Jessica Littlejohn and Banks, the Hornets were unable to close the gap as Guilford extended their lead to 20 points at one stage. Shenandoah's late push reduced the margin but fell short of mounting a full comeback.
