Hornets Dominate Averett as Kimble Joins the 1,000 Point Club

WINCHESTER, Va. – It was a night to remember for the Shenandoah University women's basketball team as they delivered an electric performance, cruising to a 101–47 victory over Averett University. This dominant display not only marked a triumphant return to the win column for the Hornets (8-4, 4-1) but also showcased the depth, talent, and teamwork that make them a formidable force in the ODAC.

The story of the night belonged to Maddie Kimble, who cemented her legacy as one of Shenandoah's greats by surpassing the 1,000-point milestone early in the second quarter. Kimble finished with 17 points on an efficient 7-9 from the field, including 3-5 from beyond the arc. She just missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds, while also contributing five assists and two steals in her best outing of the season.

Terese Greene led all scorers with 24 points on a scorching 10-13 shooting performance. She added three assists, a rebound, a block, and a steal in a well-rounded effort. Shawnise Campbell continued her dominance in the paint, going a perfect 6-6 from the floor for 13 points while grabbing five rebounds and adding a block. Dani Marmo provided a spark off the bench, hitting three three-pointers and finishing with 11 points.

In total, 12 Hornets found their way onto the scoreboard, as Shenandoah shot an incredible 62% from the field, 55.6% from three-point range, and 72.2% from the charity stripe. Their defensive prowess was equally impressive, holding the Cougars to just 26.2% shooting while doubling their rebounding total, 46-23. The Hornets dominated the paint, outscoring Averett 48-8 in that area.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding 10-0 lead before Averett managed their first basket three minutes into the game. Emily Williams and Gabby Krystofiak kept the offense humming, feeding Greene and Kimble for easy buckets as the lead swelled to 28-13 by the end of the first quarter.

Kimble's historic moment came less than two minutes into the second quarter when she sank a smooth jumper from the elbow to notch her 1,000th career point. Kimble became the 22nd player in program history to achieve the feat. Shenandoah continued to pile on, with Marmo's sharp shooting from deep and Campbell's dominance inside helping the Hornets take a commanding 60-26 lead into halftime.

The second half was a formality, as Shenandoah opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 42 points. The Hornets' relentless pace and precision ensured there would be no letup, with Sydney Shepos putting an exclamation mark on the night by hitting a late three-pointer to push the team past the century mark for the second time this season.

UP NEXT

The Hornets will look to keep their momentum going as they welcome Roanoke College to town on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., with Shenandoah aiming to strengthen their position in conference play.
