Williams' Double-Double Helps Women's Basketball to Road Win

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team began its road campaign with a 75-57 win at Wilson College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Hornets (2-0) had four players hit double-digits in the scoring column and held the Phoenix (2-2) to 17 total points in the final two quarters, after allowing 40 points in the first half. Emily Williams tallied a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win.

RECAP

Each team shot 50 percent in the first quarter, with seven lead changes in the first 10 minutes. Halfway through the first, the home team led by three, but a three from Skai Bayless tied the game for the Hornets, 15-15. Wilson went down and regained its lead, 17-15, but an 8-0 run helped Shenandoah take a six-point lead. SU led 23-22 at the end of one.

Wilson hit a three on its first possession of the second half, reclaiming the lead, but first-year Taylor Moran answered back with a three of her own for a 26-25 SU lead. The teams traded points for the rest of the frame, ending the half in a 40-40 tie.

In the third quarter, SU pulled ahead by 13 points, 59-46, thanks to a 13-0 run with points from Addisyn Banks, Nesselrodt, and Moran. During the run, the Phoenix were held scoreless for four minutes.  Banks hit a jumper just before the end of the quarter to keep the 13-point lead following a pair of Wilson free throws.

Shenandoah's lead continued to grow in the fourth quarter, with the team taking a game-high 19-point lead thanks to points from Nesselrodt and Mya Martin. The SU defense held Wilson scoreless for six straight minutes in the fourth.

Banks led the team with 18 points, followed by 17 from Moran. The duo scored 35 of the team's 39 bench points. Along with her double-double, Williams led the Hornets with five assists.
