Women's Basketball Upsets Nationally-Ranked Gettysburg at RMC Tournament

ASHLAND, Va. - For the second time this season, the Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned a victory over a ranked opponent with a 63-52 win over No. 24/11 Gettysburg College on Friday night in a neutral site game at the Randolph-Macon Tournament.

The Hornets (3-0) ended the game on a 9-3 run to pull away from the Bullets (3-2) after the Bullets were able to take the lead after overcoming a 10-point deficit early in the fourth.

RECAP
Addisyn Banks scored seven of the Hornets' first 10 points, giving them an eight-point lead with 5:32 remaining in the first. Banks finished the game as the top scorer with 21 points.

Gettysburg answered to take a 14-13 lead late in the opening quarter, but a pair of free throws by Taylor Moran gave the lead back to the Hornets by the end of the first.

Neither team scored in the middle of the second, with the Hornets leading by four with four minutes left in the first half. The lead got cut to one as the Bullets converted an and-one heading into halftime.

Skai Bayless began the third quarter with a three-pointer for SU, followed by a long-range shot by Brynna Nesselrodt minutes later to give SU an eight-point advantage. The lead finally hit double-digits for the Hornets late in the third quarter thanks to free throws from Moran and Nesselrodt.

Shenandoah was held scoreless for the final 1:57 of the third and the first three minutes of the fourth, allowing the Bullets to take a 42-39 lead off a 13-0 run. Emily Williams banked in a mid-range jumper, which put the Hornets back up, 43-42, with 6:35 left.

The Hornets held onto the lead for the remainder of the game as Jessica Littlejohn put the final touches on the win with a late fastbreak layup off a steal.

Banks, Bayless, Moran, and Nesselrodt each scored at least 10 points for Shenandoah. Williams led the team with four assists and tied with Banks for a team-high seven rebounds.
