Women's Basketball Completes Weekend Sweep at RMC Tournament

ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team pushed its season-opening win streak to four on Saturday afternoon with a 58-45 win over the University of Mary Washington in a neutral site game at the Randolph-Macon Tournament.

The Hornets (4-0) got off to a great start, holding the Eagles (2-5) to four points in the first quarter, and pulled away in the third quarter as they once again held them to under 10 points in the quarter.

Brynna Nesselrodt recorded a team-high and career-high 21 points in the win, while Addisyn Banks had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double.

RECAP

The Eagles went up 3-0, with the Hornets not scoring for the first two minutes of the game. Jessica Littlejohn put SU on the board with a layup, and Taylor Moran made a three on the next possession to give Shenandoah the lead. Skai Bayless and Nesselrodt converted two more threes for the Hornets to give them a 12-0 run and a 12-3 lead.

Shenandoah's defense held Mary Washington to 1-14 from the field and 0-8 from beyond the arc in the first. The Eagles ended the game with a three-point percentage of 0.059.

UMW began the second quarter on a 6-0 run, cutting its deficit down to four. The deficit would remain the same for most of the quarter, until Nesselrodt scored on three straight Shenandoah possessions to put the Hornets up by 10, with Banks and Lily Berger providing assists. SU led 25-17 at halftime.

The lead for the Hornets shrank to five halfway through the third quarter, but another three by Nesselrodt opened a 13-0 run for SU, which saw them gain an 18-point lead with under a minute left in the quarter.

UMW worked SU's lead down to eight in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets' defense helped them seal the win, holding the Eagles to four points in the final five minutes of play.
