Men's Basketball Drops Close Game to (RV) Elizabethtown

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team played its final game before a two-week break for the holidays and lost 68-65 at home to (RV) Elizabethtown College on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing by three with 4:19 to go, the Blue Jays (8-1) went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to pull ahead and take the win from the Hornets (6-4).

RECAP

Shenandoah got off to a hot start, leading 5-0 after their first two possessions thanks to a three from Matthew Simmons. Elizabethtown answered with a 9-2 run to lead at the first media timeout.

With 8:39 remaining in the first half, the Hornets had reclaimed the lead after forcing four turnovers and keeping the Blue Jays to five points following the media timeout. John Allen extended the lead to seven for SU with a dunk, but the visitors were able to chip away at the Hornets' lead and tie the game at 30 with 2:09 left. Elizabethtown led 34-32 at halftime.

At the start of the second, the lead flipped back to SU with points from Ellis Wright and Joseph Baldwin. First-year Andrew Ford gave Shenandoah a five-point cushion with 14:25 remaining in the game, the largest lead of the second half for the Hornets.

A trio of free throws for Shenandoah gave them a 55-52 lead with under five minutes left, but the Blue Jays would go on the previously mentioned 12-2 run to claim the lead for good and win their fifth straight game.

Dorian Davis recorded a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double for SU, while Wright led all players with 16 points.
