Newcome Earns All-Region Honors from United Soccer Coaches

Sophomore Shenandoah University women's soccer student-athlete McKenna Newcome has earned Second Team All-Region VI honors from the United Soccer Coaches, as announced by the association on Tuesday.

Newcome is the first Hornet to gain an all-region nod since Emily Yergin in 2019, after helping SU reach the ODAC semifinals and earning first team All-ODAC honors last month. Along with the postseason awards, Newcome also received ODAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this year.

The midfielder scored 14 goals and had eight assists in 21 games this season. Newcome had 24 points in the team's 10 ODAC regular-season games, ending the season on a nine-game goal streak.

The sophomore had multi-goal games versus Bridgewater and Hollins, with at least a goal and an assist versus Randolph, Eastern Mennonite, and Averett. Additionally, Newcome tallied a goal in each of the team's conference tournament games.

Newcome finished the season tied for second in the ODAC for goals and placed third in points. Just two years into her career, Newcome currently ranks 10th all-time for the Hornets with 22 career goals.
