Indianapolis, Ind. — Students from Shenandoah University recently traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to gain hands-on professional experience while working the 2025 Indy Classic, a premier Division I college basketball event. The event featured a high-profile doubleheader with Northwestern vs. Butler and No. 21 Auburn vs. No. 6 Purdue, drawing national attention and a large fan presence.

Student-athletes Isaiah Lee, Kameron Brown, Connor Johnson, Landon Russ, and Jaylen Lemon were selected to participate in this immersive learning opportunity, where they worked directly within game operations and event management.

Throughout the event, students collaborated with and networked alongside industry professionals from Indianapolis Sports Corp, Indiana Pacers Entertainment, and Russ Potts Productions Incorporated (RPPI). These interactions provided valuable insight into the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale sporting events.

Working with the Pacers Entertainment game operations team, students assisted with sponsorship activation, marketing promotions, and a variety of behind-the-scenes responsibilities critical to the success of a Division I basketball event. Their involvement offered firsthand exposure to the extensive preparation and teamwork required to deliver a high-quality fan experience.

In addition to their event responsibilities, students also had the opportunity to tour the NCAA national headquarters, gaining further insight into the governance, administration, and operations of collegiate athletics at the highest level.

The 2025 Indy Classic served as a meaningful professional development opportunity, allowing students to connect classroom instruction with real-world application.
