Men's Basketball Defeated by Bridgewater in ODAC Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team lost its first game of the season, 54-49, on Wednesday evening at Bridgewater College in the conference opener.

The Hornets (6-1, 0-1 ODAC) had a chance to tie the game at 52 with 44 seconds left, but came short on the opportunity, leading to an Eagles (4-2, 1-0) layup to seal the victory for the home team.

RECAP

Jaylen Lemon and Joseph Baldwin put the Hornets up 5-3 in the first minute of play, but a 12-0 run by the Eagles gave them a 10-point lead with 13 minutes left in the opening half. Four points by Isaiah Lee helped SU chip away at its deficit, coming within four at 17-13. Defense prevailed for the final seven minutes of the half as BC wrapped up the frame on a 7-5 run.

In the second half, Bridgewater gained an eight-point lead, 26-18, but SU quickly came back, tying the game at 33 off a dunk by Seth Sanusi. Following the dunk, Lee nailed a three on the next trip down the court to give the Hornets their first lead since the first minute of the game.

By the halfway point of the second, Bridgewater had regained its lead, but Dorian Davis put the lead back in the Hornets' hands with another three for the team. The Hornets led by four points with four minutes left after a layup by Baldwin. However, Baldwin's layup would be the final basket of the night for Shenandoah as Bridgewater took the win with a 9-0 run in the final minutes.

Baldwin led the Hornets with 11 points and three blocks. Landon Russ came off the bench and scored 10 points.
