Men's Basketball Clinches Spot in ODAC Tournament on Senior Day

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team has secured the eight-seed in the 2025 ODAC Tournament following an 82-67 conference win at home on Saturday.

The Hornets (10-15, 5-11 ODAC) clinched a playoff spot with the win and a win by Ferrum over Washington and Lee. Shenandoah will play top-seeded Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Virginia on Wednesday night. The win also gives Shenandoah at least 10 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2009-10.

RECAP

The first portion of the game was all SU after the Eagles (8-17, 3-13) first basket that made it 3-2. The Hornets responded with a 12-0 run that saw them lead 15-2 not evening five minutes into the game. During the run, SU gained threes from Dorian Davis, Joseph Baldwin, and Marcus NeSmith.

Joshua Stephen delivered another three for SU which was followed up by a Landon Russ layup to push the Hornets into the lead by 14. The lead grew to 18 as Russ scored another basket after assisting on a three by Davis. The SU advantage continued to grow as Davis made another set of buckets, putting the Hornets up by 22, 30-8.

Ellis Wright dropped seven straight points for the Hornets towards the end of the half which gave SU the 42-18 lead at the break. Despite the massive lead at the half, SU's playoff hopes were looking slim as Washington and Lee held a lead over Ferrum down in Lexington.

The second half started on a high note for Shenandoah as NeSmith made a three while getting fouled and converted the free throw to cap the four-point play. Kendrick Robinson scored layups on back-to-back Shenandoah possessions to keep them up by a wide margin, despite multiple made shots by the visitors.

NeSmith and Robinson were two of five players to be honored pregame for senior day, joining Davion Roberts, Gavin Bizyak, and Matt Simmons.

Shenandoah's lead extended to 31 as Baldwin scored a second-chance layup after snagging two offensive rebounds on the same possession. Threes by Stephen and Russ helped SU take a 35-point lead with 13:13 left.

Roberts, John Allen, and Tye Thompson all added points for SU during the remainder of the game as Bridgewater closed the gap down to 15 by the final buzzer.

Davis dropped a game and career-high 28 points in the regular season finale while shooting 6 for 7 from beyond the arc. Russ ended the game with six assists and Robinson had six rebounds, both team highs.
