Men's Basketball's Season Ends in ODAC Quarterfinals

ASHLAND, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team saw its season come to an end in the ODAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday night, falling to top-seeded Randolph-Macon College, 81-51.

Shenandoah (10–16) was held without a field goal for the final five minutes of the first half and for the first six and a half minutes of the second, allowing the Yellow Jackets (23–3) to pull away and advance to the semifinals.

RECAP

Joseph Baldwin opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game with a layup, giving Shenandoah an early 2–0 lead. Randolph-Macon responded with five unanswered points and never relinquished control. A catch-and-shoot three-pointer from Dorian Davis briefly tied the game at 5–5, but the Yellow Jackets quickly answered with an and-one and back-to-back threes to go up 14–7.

Ellis Wright connected on a pull-up jumper, and John Allen added a layup to bring Shenandoah within three at the first media timeout. Both teams were shooting around 50% at that point, exchanging baskets after the break. However, in a three-point game, Randolph-Macon hit three consecutive three-pointers as part of a 9–0 run to extend its lead to 25–13.

Randolph-Macon's strong shooting propelled them to a 17-point lead before Wright knocked down a three-pointer to score his ninth point of the half and cut the deficit to 14. Shenandoah's final field goal of the first half came at the 5:27 mark when Joshua Stephen hit the team's third three-pointer of the frame. Baldwin added two free throws for the only other points in the final five minutes as Randolph-Macon took a commanding 47–24 lead into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets continued their defensive dominance in the second half, holding Shenandoah without a field goal until Wright connected on a mid-range jumper six and a half minutes in. Minutes later, Stephen knocked down a three-pointer off an assist from Allen, but by the midway point of the half, Randolph-Macon had built a 32-point lead.

The Yellow Jackets maintained at least a 30-point advantage for the remainder of the contest, with Allen, Davis, Wright, and Landon Russ providing the final points for Shenandoah down the stretch.

Wright and Allen led Shenandoah in scoring with 17 and 12 points, respectively, both coming off the bench.

Shenandoah concludes its 2024–25 season with a 10-win campaign. This marks the first time in over a decade that the program has recorded double-digit wins in consecutive seasons.
