HOW IT HAPPENED
Shenandoah struck first just three minutes into the game, capitalizing on a Comets turnover. Taylor found the back of the net off a feed from Daniel, giving the Hornets an early 1-0 advantage. However, Capital responded with five unanswered goals, taking a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
The Hornets' defense tightened in the second period, shutting out the Comets. After Cody Griffis caused a turnover, his initial shot went wide, but on the reset, Bakhsh dodged his defender, set his feet, and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 5-2 heading into halftime.
Despite generating offensive opportunities in the second half, the Hornets were unable to break through Capital's defensive unit. Meanwhile, the Comets tacked on three more goals to seal the 8-2 victory.
