Hornets Drop ODAC Opener to Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday night with a 19-7 loss on the road against Washington and Lee.

The Hornets (3-5, 0-1 ODAC) were led by Cody Griffis, who recorded four goals and an assist for a five-point night. Dylan Taylor dished out two assists, and Mark Isabelle made an impressive 22 saves in goal despite facing 70 shots from the Generals (5-2, 1-0 ODAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shenandoah got on the board first, as Griffis fired an unassisted goal just under two minutes into the game. The Generals quickly responded with a goal of their own before Boonshaft regained the lead for SU off an assist from Taylor at the 10:37 mark.

From there, Washington and Lee took control, going on a 10-goal run spanning the first and second quarters. The Hornets were able to stop the streak late in the second with a goal from Griffis, assisted by Green, and a man-up goal from Green, assisted by Taylor, to make it a 12-4 game at halftime.

The Hornets showed fight in the second half, with Griffis scoring his third goal early in the third quarter, but Washington and Lee responded with six straight goals to put the game out of reach. Griffis added one more unassisted tally in the fourth quarter before Green netted his second goal, assisted by Griffis, to round out Shenandoah's scoring.
