FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team bounced back from a loss the day before with a 4-3 road win over Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets (24-13, 13-7) took the lead early and held on late behind strong bullpen work and timely hitting.

How it happened
Shenandoah got off to a quick start in the top of the second. Haden Madagan doubled down the left field line with one out, and Carl Keenan drove him in with a two-out single to put SU ahead 1-0. Keenan reached third on a pair of wild pitches but was left stranded.
In the bottom half, Mary Washington responded. After a lead off walk, Arrichiello gave up a two-run home run to right field, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. He settled down to retire the next three batters and end the frame.
The Hornets tied the game in the third. Kyle Garrett reached on an error with one out, and Noah Cornwell followed with a double to right field, allowing Garrett to score from first. Meyers then took over on the mound for Shenandoah and worked around a lead off single to hold the score at 2-2.
Shenandoah reclaimed the lead in the fifth. Garrett and Cornwell both drew walks, and Pickette singled to left, plating Garrett for a 3-2 lead. Holbert then entered in the bottom of the inning and set the Eagles down in order.
In the sixth, Keenan drew a walk, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Padilla's double to right, giving SU a 4-2 lead. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the inning after a lead off double and a pair of Hornet errors, cutting the deficit to one. Holbert induced a double play to limit further damage, and Farrington recorded the final out of the frame.
In the seventh, Farrington allowed a lead off single and was replaced by Ferreira after a sacrifice bunt. Ferreira stranded the runner by recording the final two outs of the inning.
The Hornets tried to add insurance in the ninth. Garrett led off with a single and was moved to second on a ground out. Pickette singled to right, but Garrett was thrown out at home attempting to score.
Stewart, who entered in the eighth, shut the door in the ninth by retiring the side in order and earning the save.
