SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team saw its 2024 season come to an end Tuesday night in the ODAC Quarterfinals with a 24-10 loss to Roanoke. The Hornets (8-11, 4-6) reached the quarterfinals for the fourth straight season and were eliminated by the Maroons for the second consecutive year.
Shenandoah was led offensively by Cody Griffis, Jake Green, and Dylan Pencek, who each recorded a pair of goals. Josh Boonshaft, Dylan Taylor, Luke Petrie, and Aaron Coombs added one goal apiece. Taylor dished out three assists, while Green and Jonathan Hammond added one each.
Hammond and Jason Forchetti collected four ground balls each, with Hammond also forcing a team-high two turnovers. At the faceoff X, Roanoke held the advantage, winning 20 of 36. Forchetti went 8-for-23, Braxton Snead was 6-for-11, and both Ryan Therkorn and Noah Zeranski won their only attempts.
In his final appearance as a Hornet, Mark Isabelle made a game-high 27 saves, closing his career with 1,097 total saves. He also set a new single-season program record with 262 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Roanoke opened the game with a strong first quarter, winning the initial faceoff and capitalizing quickly after an early save by Isabelle. The Maroons converted on four of their first six shots to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Despite some strong play from Isabelle, Roanoke tacked on four more goals to take an 8-0 lead into the second quarter.
Shenandoah responded to start the second quarter. After a penalty carried over, Dylan Taylor put the Hornets on the board with an extra-man goal off a feed from Green. Griffis scored just 40 seconds later to make it 8-2, but Roanoke answered off the next faceoff.
Following a turnover, Coombs scored his first goal of the year to bring the deficit to 9-3. Green followed with a goal of his own, and Pencek added another to cut it to 9-5. Roanoke responded with a four-goal run before a flurry of goals closed the half. Petrie scored off a Hammond assist, Roanoke answered, and Pencek buried his second with just seven seconds remaining to make it 14-7 at the break.
The Hornets came out of halftime strong, with Green scoring an extra-man goal off Taylor's second assist. Roanoke answered, but Boonshaft converted another man-up goal off Taylor's third assist to make it 15-9. Shenandoah only managed one more goal the rest of the way, a third man-up tally from Griffis in the fourth quarter. Roanoke scored six more times to seal the 24-10 win.

The Hornets conclude their season in the ODAC Quarterfinals, scoring 10 goals—tied for their second-most ever against Roanoke. Shenandoah finishes the year with eight wins, their highest mark since 2021.
