Five Hornets Earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Shenandoah University baseball program earned five ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors for Region Six, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. Noah Cornwell and Jaime Padilla each earned first team honors, Brody Pickette earned a spot on the second team, and Liam Stewart and Kyle Garrett were named to the third team.

Noah Cornwell made the most of his final season in a Hornets uniform, batting .303 on the year with 53 hits. Of his 53 hits, 34 were for extra bases. The graduate student tallied 15 doubles, two triples, and led both the team and the conference with 17 home runs. Cornwell also drove in a team-high and league-high 60 RBI, finishing with a .703 slugging percentage.

Jaime Padilla led the way for the Hornets with a .418 batting average. He led the team in hits with 71, recorded 20 doubles, two triples, and belted five home runs. He scored a team-high 52 runs and drove in 42 while walking 30 times. In his junior campaign, the centerfielder stole 14 bases, had an OPS of 1.159, a slugging percentage of .647, and an on-base percentage of .512.

Brody Pickette earned a spot on the second team. He played in all 45 games for the Hornets, making 44 starts behind the plate. Pickette had his best season offensively, batting .368 with 60 hits, 12 doubles, and five home runs. He drove in 46 runs and scored 42 times. Behind the plate, he threw out 16 runners attempting to steal, setting a new single-season program record.

First-year pitcher Liam Stewart earned third team honors. Stewart made 17 appearances in his debut season, including one start, and posted an impressive 2.03 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched). He was 3-1 on the year with two saves over 40 innings pitched. Stewart allowed just 20 hits, struck out 55 batters, surrendered only 10 runs all season, and held opposing hitters to a .149 batting average.

Kyle Garrett earned a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region third team. The versatile junior was second on the team with a .378 batting average while playing second base, third base, and both corner outfield positions. Garrett tallied 56 hits, including 15 doubles, one triple, and one home run. He drove in 31 runs and scored 47 times. Garrett also led the team with 19 stolen bases, slugged .514, and had an on-base percentage of .462.

Cornwell, Padilla, Pickette, and Stewart were also named to the D3baseball.com All-Region team earlier today. ABCA/Rawlings All-American selections will be announced on Thursday.

Padilla, Cornwell, Pickette, Stewart, and Garrett all earned All-ODAC First Team honors earlier this month. Shenandoah wrapped up the season 28-17 overall and 14-8 in ODAC play, collecting three wins in the conference tournament.
