Four Hornets Named to D3baseball.com All-Region Six Team

Stewart Named Rookie of the Year

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. – In selections released by D3baseball.com, four Shenandoah University baseball players were named to the Region Six All-Region team on Tuesday morning. Three Hornets garnered first team honors, with Jaime Padilla, Noah Cornwell, and Liam Stewart all earning spots. Stewart also picked up Region Six Rookie of the Year. Brody Pickette rounded out the Hornets honorees, earning second-team honors.

Jaime Padilla led the way for the Hornets with a .418 batting average. He led the team in hits with 71, had 20 doubles, two triples, and belted five home runs. He also scored a team-high 52 runs and drove in 42, while walking 30 times. In his junior campaign, the center fielder stole 14 bases, had an OPS of 1.159, a slugging percentage of .647, and an on-base percentage of .512.

Noah Cornwell made the most of his final season in a Hornets uniform, batting .303 on the year with 53 hits. Of those 53 hits, 34 were for extra bases. The graduate student had 15 doubles, two triples, and led both the team and the conference with 17 home runs. Cornwell also drove in a team-high and league-high 60 RBI, with a slugging percentage of .703.

First-year standout Liam Stewart also earned first team honors and was named Region Six Rookie of the Year. Stewart made 17 appearances in his debut campaign, with one start, posting an impressive 2.03 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched). He finished 3-1 on the season with two saves in 40 innings pitched. Stewart allowed only 20 hits, struck out 55 batters, gave up just 10 runs all season, and held opponents to a .149 batting average.

The final Hornet to earn all-region honors was Brody Pickette, who was named to the second team. Pickette played in all 45 games for the Hornets, making 44 starts behind the plate. He posted his best offensive season, batting .368 with 60 hits, 12 doubles, and five home runs. He drove in 46 runs while scoring 42. Behind the plate, Pickette threw out 16 runners attempting to steal, setting a new single-season record for Shenandoah.

Padilla, Cornwell, Stewart, and Pickette also earned All-ODAC First Team honors earlier this month. The Hornets wrapped up the season 28-17 overall and 14-8 in conference play, picking up three wins in the ODAC Tournament.

D3baseball.com All-Americans will be released on Thursday, May 29th.
