ABINGTON, Pa. – Shenandoah University men's soccer battled back in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw at Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions struck first in the 55th minute when Frank Monaco finished off a corner, assisted by Temur Temirov, to put the hosts up 1-0. Shenandoah responded just over 20 minutes later. In the 78th minute, sophomore forward Jarbin Rodriguez found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, leveling the match at 1-1.
Neither side could break through over the final 12 minutes, as both defenses held strong despite late pushes.
Rodriguez paced the Hornets' attack with two of the team's four shots, one on target, while goalkeeper Cameron Vester made two saves to preserve the result. Olvin Martinez and Luke Shearer added attempts, with Shearer forcing Penn State's keeper Keegan Courduff into one of his saves.
The Lions finished with a 9-4 edge in corner kicks and three shots on goal compared to Shenandoah's two, but Vester's play in net kept the Hornets even.
The draw moves Shenandoah to 1-2-2 on the year, while Penn State Abington sits at 0-3-3.
