Track and Field Sets 26 Personal Records at Cardinal Classic

LANDOVER, Md. - The Shenandoah University track and field teams had 21 top 10 finishes on Saturday at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic hosted by Catholic. The SU men placed fourth in a 16-team field, while the women tied for seventh out of 13 teams.

The Hornets set 26 personal records and had three Hornets move up inside the program's record book.

In the field, Kaitlyn Loy and Molly Donaldson moved into third place in the program's record book for triple jump and shot put, respectively. Loy placed fifth in the triple jump, hitting 10.20m. Donaldson threw a mark of 11.67m for a fourth-place showing.

On the men's side, Zack Hamacher placed seventh in the 3,000m with a time of 9:13.47 while moving into ninth all-time for SU in the event. Will Ashley, Brenden Maloy, and Ethan Beaugez all set PRs in the event and finished with each other, as Ashley led the trio in 10th place.

In the men's 400m, Zachary Sheehan finished in fifth with a PR at 53.30 seconds, as Wyatt Newcome wrapped up one spot in front of Sheehan. In the women's 400m, Grace Semow crossed the finish line in eighth at 59.08 seconds.

All three Hornets in the women's 5,000m had top 10 finishes. Maddy Chorney finished fourth at 18:59.05, while Cora Helman (20:18.19) and Sarah Lane (20:42.84) had PRs while finishing in seventh- and eighth-place. Isaac Clarke placed sixth in the men's 5k, setting a PR at 16:51.98. John Buckley also finished inside the top-10 of the men's event while also finishing with a personal best.

Shenandoah had all three of its men's relay teams place sixth or better, with two teams competing in the 4x400m relay and one team in the DMR.

Back in the field, Mekhi Mims jumped 1.80m in the men's high jump, closing out in fifth place. Grady Speer set a personal record in the men's weight throw at 13.51m.

Shenandoah travels to Liberty for the two-day Liberty Open on Friday and Saturday.
