Men's Basketball Splits Season Series with Bridgewater

Hornets Defeat Eagles, 69-60

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team split its regular season series with Bridgewater College on Wednesday night with a 69-60 ODAC win at home.

John Allen snagged his first career double-double for the Hornets (10-8, 3-6 ODAC), while Ellis Wright dropped 27 points for the third time this season to lead the team to victory over the Eagles (6-12, 2-7).

RECAP

It was a quiet first few minutes of the contest for either offense as the Hornets grabbed an early 9-8 lead eight minutes into the game. Isaiah Lee gave SU a four-point advantage, but the Eagles quickly tied the game at 12, before Wright handed the lead back to the Hornets with a layup.

The lead changed hands six times across the next several minutes, until Wright and Dorian Davis nailed back-to-back three-pointers, giving SU a 29-27 lead. With just over a minute left in the half, Bridgewater tied the game at 29, but just before the buzzer, Wright banged a contested three-pointer to ensure a three-point lead at halftime for the Hornets.

Just over six minutes into the second half, Bridgewater reclaimed the advantage, but and-ones by Samuel Dailey and Allen helped SU go up by three once again. Landon Russ hit a pull-up shot from downtown, extending the lead to eight, before five straight points from Wright helped grow the lead to 13, 55-42, with 6:28 remaining.

Down the final stretch, Shenandoah converted eight free throws to keep the lead in double-digits, with Allen capping off the win with a dunk off an assist from Dailey. Allen finished the game perfect from the floor and charity stripe, while grabbing ten rebounds at the defensive end of the court.

Wright wrapped up the game shooting above 50 percent, going 4-6 from beyond the arc.

Lee led the SU bench players with seven points, while Russ chipped in five points, three assists, and two steals, the latter being team-highs. Conner Long, Davis, and Ellis collected the three blocks for the Hornets.
