SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Shenandoah University women's tennis team took the courts at Sweet Briar College to compete in the Battle of the Blue Ridge; their last competition this fall. Facing off against regional opponents including host Sweet Briar (SBC), Lynchburg (LYN), Guilford (GC), and Randolph-Macon (RMC), the Hornets put together solid performances across both doubles and singles play.

Doubles Highlights

Shenandoah's top tandem of Samantha Calvert and Olivia Guzzo delivered a dominant showing in doubles action. The duo opened with an emphatic 6-0 sweep over Sweet Briar's C. Bowers and H.M. Duncan before following up with a hard-fought 6-3 victory against Lynchburg's I. Ascencio and I. Florez.

In additional doubles play, Lucy Goldman teamed up with Piseth Nith to earn a 6-3 win over Sweet Briar's A. Manjarres and E. Winwood.

Singles Highlights

The Hornets translated their momentum into singles action, picking up impressive standard and tiebreaker victories:

• Abigail Loya put together a pristine performance, blanking Sweet Briar's E. Winwood 6-0, 6-0.

• First-year Emerie Meredith commanded her match against SBC's A. Manjarres, earning a straight-sets 6-0, 6-4 victory.

• First-year Capri Blankenship battled out the closest match of the day, showing composure in key moments to edge Randolph-Macon's I. Dreyer in a high-stakes second-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
