Women's Basketball Defeated by Yellow Jackets

Banks Scores Team-High 21 Points

ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team lost 62-53 on the road on Wednesday night in an ODAC game at Randolph-Macon College.

The Yellow Jackets (16-6, 10-3 ODAC) used 18 offensive rebounds and 11 second-chance points to help them to their win against the Hornets (16-6, 8-5).

A three-pointer to kickstart the game by Addisyn Banks helped the Hornets capture a 7-0 lead, with Emily Williams and Jessica Littlejohn chipping in two points each. The Yellow Jackets responded with an 8-0 run, with the Hornets regaining the lead, 9-8, on a Skai Bayless jumper. Littlejohn extended the lead for SU with a three, but the Hornets were held scoreless for the final three minutes, allowing RMC to take a 16-12 lead at the end of one.

A free throw by Brynna Nesselrodt and a three-pointer by Taylor Moran cut SU's deficit to two early in the second. Following a three-pointer by RMC, Banks hit a jumper to keep it a one-possession game for the Hornets. Randolph-Macon's lead grew to eight with 2:21 remaining in the half, before a buzzer-beater extended it to nine at halftime.

In the third quarter, Randolph-Macon started the frame with five straight makes, helping them grab an 18-point advantage with 5:56 left. Steals by Banks and Littlejohn, along with a three-pointer by Nesselrodt, helped SU cut its deficit to 13 at the end of three.

RMC's lead once again hit 18 points less than a minute into the fourth. Banks scored the first six points of the fourth quarter for Shenandoah as the Yellow Jackets maintained a double-digit lead. With under a minute left, Williams cut the SU deficit to single-digits but the Yellow Jackets hung on for the nine-point win.

Banks led Shenandoah with 21 points, eight assists, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Nesselrodt added 10 points and Williams added five rebounds and two steals for SU.

The Hornets are on the road this Saturday in a 4:30 p.m. ODAC game at Roanoke.
