Women's Basketball Advances to ODAC Semifinals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The fourth-seeded Shenandoah University women's basketball team is headed to the ODAC Semifinals after a 61-60 win at home over fifth-seeded Guilford College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The Hornets (20-6) received a clutch free throw from Jessica Littlejohn in the final seconds to secure the win over the Quakers (18-8). SU is set to face the top-seeded and nationally ranked Washington and Lee University on Saturday in the semifinals.

RECAP

It was a back-and-forth start to the game, which saw three ties in the first three and a half minutes. Three consecutive three-pointers from Brynna Nesselrodt gave the Horents a 18-8 lead with 4:09 left in the first. Nesselrodt finished the game with a team-high 19 points on five three pointers. Guilford ended the first on a 10-2 run to only trail 20-18 at the end of one.

SU's defense held Guilford scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the second with Addisyn Banks and Emily Williams scoring for the Hornets, helping them grab a 26-18 lead. Jessica Littlejohn and Nesselrodt scored to get the lead back to 10 for SU late, with the home team leading 35-27 at halftime.

In the middle of the third, a 9-0 run by Guilford cut the Hornets' lead down to three, 41-38. Three points and two steals by Williams helped SU get its lead back to where it was at halftime before the Quakers cut it to seven with a free throw at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, the lead stayed right around where it was for the Hornets, until Nesselrodt converted her final three-pointer of the evening to push the advantage back to double-digits. With 1:13 remaining, Guilford cut its deficit down to three, but three free throws made it a two possession game. With 11 ticks on the clock, the Quakers knocked down a three-pointer to cut the SU lead in half.

The Quakers were forced to foul, sending Littlejohn to the line for two shots. Littlejohn missed the first shot but made the second to make it a four-point game with eight seconds left. Guilford went down the court and hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer, but with not enough time on the clock, SU held on for the win.

Williams had an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double. The senior also added six steals in the win, along with two blocks, both team-highs.
