Hornets Begin Competition at ODAC Championships

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University track and field teams competed in 11 events on Saturday for day one of the 2026 ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Roanoke College. The SU women are currently seventh, and the men sit eighth.

The women's DMR team earned the most points on the day for Shenandoah, placing fourth in their relay. Maddy Chorney, Elaina Ramos, Grace Semow, and Amy Oleksy ran a 13:04.02 to give Shenandoah five points. The relay team missed out on All-ODAC by just 0.13 seconds.

The SU men's DMR team, consisting of Kyle Corpin, Wyatt Newcome, Nathan Lee, and Brayden Shotwell, ran a 10:51.12 in their relay to place fifth in the event.

In the field, Grady Speer earned a team point for the SU men with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw. Speer threw a PR of 14.20m on his fourth attempt, which is the ninth-best mark for the Hornets. Luke Jacobs tossed a 12.97m mark for a PR of his own.

In the women's 5,000m, Chorney placed sixth with an 18:57.62. That time is the exact mark that she hit at the 2025 conference championship, which set a personal record. Emilie Gaudron set a PR with a tenth-place showing at 19:24.54. Sarah Lane and Arial Crawford also surpassed their PRs in the event.

On the men's side of the 5,000m, Will Ashley ran a 15:35.79 to finish in ninth. The time set the second-best mark all-time for the Hornets' men's team. Caleb Beiswenger placed 16th, and Brenden Maloy ran a PR time of 16:36.70 for 17th.

Ruth McGhee missed out on the 60m finals on the women's side by 0.05 seconds, placing ninth at 8.13. Myah Powell-Utley finished 12th with an 8.23.

Mekhi Mims hit 1.90m in the men's high jump to finish ninth in the conference.
