Baseball Hits Two Grand Slams in the Third Inning in 21-1 Victory Over Mounties

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball program earned its largest victory of margin since 2018 with a 21-1 win at home over Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (10-0) powered their way to 21 runs against the Mounties (2-4) with two grand slams in the third inning. JP Williams, Tyler Smith, and Kyle Garrett each had at least four RBI in the win.

RECAP

JP Williams hit a two-RBI single through the left side to put the first pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Anthony Arrichello retired the order inside in the second for the Hornets, helping them carry the 2-0 lead to the home half of the second.

With bases loaded in the second, Dillion Mauzy hit a bases-clearing double to center field for three more Shenandoah runs. Two batters later, Tyler Smith hit his fifth home run of the season with a two-run shot to left field. SU led 7-0 at the end of two.

Twelve Hornets came to the plate in the third for Shenandoah. After an out by the leadoff hitter and a walk to Kemper Omps, Christian Carver and Carl Keenan singled to load the bases. Then, on a 2-2 count, Kyle Garrett hit a grand slam to left to make it an 11-0 game.

Following Garrett's grand slam, a Mauzy double, plus walks to Jaime Padilla and Smith loaded the bases again. This brought JP Williams to the plate and he hit the team's second grand slam of the inning, making it 15-0.

In the fourth, Keenan, Garrett, and Mauzy each scored in the three-run inning for Shenandoah. Samuel Barber, Smith, and Brady Morrell hit three consecutive hits in the fifth inning to plate the final three runs of the game for Shenandoah.

The Mounties scored their lone run of the game with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Kody Dobyns (1-0) picked up the win for the Hornets on the mound, pitching the fourth inning with one strikeout.
