Track and Field Hosts Final Qualifier

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University indoor track and field teams hosted the NCAA South Region Final Qualifier on Saturday at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics and Events Center on campus.

Grace Semow and Amy Oleksy in the women's 800m were the lone event of the day for the SU women. Semow set a personal record of 2:21.46, which was 0.46 seconds shy of the school record. Oleksy finished just over two seconds after Semow at 2:23.58.

In the men's sprints, Wyatt Newcome competed for SU in the 200m, finishing at 23.40, and Roman Bernard ran a 51.87 in the 400m.

Kyle Corpin and Ethan Beaugez finished the men's mile for the Hornets. Corpin crossed the line at 4:36.38, and Beaugez, running in the event for the first time, ran a 4:55.73. Will Ashley, Bryce Scholz, and Brayden Shotwell all started the race but did not finish.

Shenandoah had two competitors in the field on Saturday. Mekhi Mims jumped in the high jump and hit 1.89m, while Luke Jacobs threw a 12.80m mark in the men's weight throw.

Semow, Newcome, and Bernard won their respective events.

Shenandoah turns its attention to the outdoor season, opening its competition in nearly two weeks at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
