Men's Lacrosse Bested by Roanoke

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Roanoke College 17-4 in ODAC play at home on Wednesday.

A 9-0 run by the Maroons (7-3, 3-2 ODAC) pushed them ahead 12-2 early in the third quarter, helping them get the conference win over the Hornets (3-9, 1-4).

RECAP

A little over three minutes into the game the Maroons scored first, but it was quickly tied 1-1 thanks to Xavier Parker racing down the field and putting one past the Maroons. Over the next three minutes, Roanoke would go on and score twice for a 3-1 lead.

With nearly six minutes left in the first, a Maroons turnover led to Cody Griffis scoring for the Hornets to cut their deficit to one. Roanoke then proceeded to score nine unanswered across the next 21 minutes of game time to lead 12-2 in the third.

Good offensive ball movement by the Hornets led to Griffis snapping the Maroons' streak, with his second tally of the evening at the 11:02 mark of the third. Neither team scored for the rest of the third quarter as Ryan Feldman made five saves in the quarter for the Hornets. The goalie went on to finish with 17 total saves.

An assist by Parker in the fourth helped Dylan Foughty strike for the Hornets' fourth goal of the evening. Roanoke added five goals in the final quarter to cap the 17-4 win.

Brody McClure led the Hornets with five groundballs, while also winning 10 faceoffs.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah plays at Randolph College this Saturday at 4 p.m. in an ODAC game.
