Men's Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale

WINCHESTER, Va. - In the team's regular season finale, the Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team fell 12-11 at home to Virginia Wesleyan University in an ODAC game, which also served as the team's senior day.

Two goals in the final two minutes of the game gave the Marlins (11-6, 5-5 ODAC) the win, after the Hornets (5-12, 3-7) led by two entering the fourth. Jake Green led the Hornets with four goals on Saturday.

RECAP

Two saves by Ryan Feldman helped the Hornets keep the game scoreless, before striking first halfway through the first quarter with a goal from Liam Arnsmeyer. Feldman finished the game with 12 saves.

Trailing 2-1 entering the second, SU tied the game at two less than a minute into the frame with a marker from Luke Petrie. The Marlins went down and quickly took the lead, but Jake Green's first goal of teh afternoon tied it right back up at three. 

Midway through the second, Xavier Parker gave SU the lead, before the Marlins tied the game back up at four with under six to play in the half. In the final minute of the second, Green scored twice for the Hornets, giving them a 6-4 halftime lead.

Cody Griffis scored first in the third, pushing SU's lead out to three, 7-4. The Marlins cut their deficit back to two, but another goal by Griffis put SU back up by three, with an assist from Noah Nolt. The teams traded goals for the rest of the quarter, as Green and Nolt found the back of the net for SU.

The Marlins tied the game at 10 in the fourth, but on a man-up opportunity, Parker scored with 3:25 to go, giving the lead back to the Hornets, 11-10. However, VWU scored twice in the final 93 seconds of the game to take the ODAC win.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah is currently the eighth seed in the ODAC standings and await the conclusion of the regular season to see where they end up in the ODAC Tournament.
