No. 7 Baseball Closes Out Non-Conference Play with Loss to Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The No. 7 Shenandoah University baseball program took to the road for its final non-conference game of the regular season and lost 9-4 to Elizabethtown College on Wednesday.

The Hornets (29-8) allowed six runs in the bottom of the fifth, after tying the game at three in the top of the frame. The Blue Jays' (23-13) pitching staff held the Hornets to five hits in the game.

RECAP

Shenandoah's bats were quiet in the first three innings, as the Blue Jays sat down the first nine batters of the day. This allowed the home team to drive in three runs in the third for the lead after the first third of the game.

In the top of the fourth, Jaime Padilla picked up the first SU hit of the day with a double to the right field gap. A bunt by Kyle Garrett pushed Padilla to third, before Carl Keenan drove in Padilla with an RBI groundout.

Dillon Mauzy kicked off the fifth with a single, and Tyler Smith hit a ball deep enough to right center for an RBI double, plating Mauzy. Two batters later, Kemper Omps tied the game at three with an RBI that scored Smith.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Jays hit a lead-off home run to take the lead back. They then added five more runs in the inning, pulling ahead 9-3.

Shenandoah left seven runners on base across the final four innings of play, only scoring one more run on an RBI groundout by Smith in the seventh. Additionally, SU only had two hits across those four innings.

Shenandoah heads to the University of Lynchburg for two ODAC games between the nationally-ranked teams.
