Hornets Conclude Championships with Five All-ODAC Awards

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University outdoor track and field teams had two more All-ODAC accolades on Saturday at day two of the ODAC Championships, bringing its total to five for the weekend.

The Hornets had Roman Bernard and Grady Speer earn All-ODAC nods, with Bernard placing second in the finals of the men's 400m and Speer placing second in the men's discus.

Overall, the SU men scored 37 points for seventh place, as the women tallied 38 points for fifth.

TRACK RECAP

Roman Bernard, running in the men's 400m, finished the race in 47.28 seconds to give him All-ODAC second team honors. The first-year also set the program record in the event, after initially breaking it yesterday in the prelims. Additionally, Bernard is now 13th in the 400m in Division III this season.

In the finals of the women's 100m, Ruth McGhee placed seventh with a time of 12.39 seconds, setting a new PR and running the third best mark all-time for the Hornets. The first-year finished once spot higher in the 200m, placing sixth at 25.71.

Nathan Lee scored team points in the men's 800m, wrapping up in seventh with a time of 1:57.47, earning fourth all-time for SU. Kyle Corpin ran a 2:01.44 to earn 15th. In the women's 800m, Grace Semow came in ninth at 2:23.62, Amy Oleksy ran a 2:27.98 for 13th, and Emily Bultema finished 18th at 2:37.05.

Maddy Chorney earned eighth in the women's 5,000m with a PR of 18:45.51, moving her up in the SU top-10. Makenna Thrush crossed the finish line at 19:22.70 for 14th and Arial Crawford set a PR at 20:50.77 for 18th.

In the men's 5,000m, Will Ashley and Sebastian Berrios finished in 16th and 17th place respectively, running times of 16:14.89 and 16:16.38. Zack Hamacher (16:24.74), Brenden Maloy (16:32.81), and Corey Christensen (17:18.51) finished between 20th and 22nd. Berrios and Maloy set PRs in the event.

All four SU relay teams scored team points on Saturday. The men's 4x100m and 4x400m teams each came in eighth, while the women's 4x100m placed seventh and the women's 4x400m earned eighth.

FIELD RECAP

Grady Speer took home All-ODAC Second Team with a personal best throw of 43.16m in the men's discus, handing him his second all-conference award of the weekend. Hsi throw places him fourth all-time for SU.

Elsewhere in the men's discus, Luke Jacobs placed 18th at 32.27m and Sawyer Paine threw a 26.00m mark for 21st.

Mekhi Mims had a distance of 34.26m in the men's javelin for 11th, Carson Harris threw a 13th place showing of 34.06m, and Speer earned 16th at 32.17m.

Kaitlyn Loy and Elaina Ramos eached scored for the SU women in the triple jump. Loy hit a PR mark of 10.73m for sixth and Ramos was righ behind her in seventh with a PR of 10.67m. The duo are each now top three all-time for the Hornets.

Loy then went on to set the program record in the women's pole vault with a jump of 2.76m, breaking her previous record of 2.75m. Loy placed fifth at the championships.

Zachary Sheehan came in fourth in the men's triple jump, reaching 13.74m.

In the women's discus, Molly Donaldson hit a mark of 32.06m to take home 12th.

The Hornets are at the Widener Final Qualifer on May 11th.
