Softball Splits With Roanoke; Earns Two Seed in ODAC Tournament

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team concluded its 2026 regular season with a split at home against Roanoke College on Sunday afternoon, as the team celebrated senior day.

The Hornets (29-9, 14-6 ODAC) earned the two seed in the ODAC Tournament following the team's 7-2 win over the Maroons (19-19, 12-8) in game one. The Maroons then came back to defeat the Hornets 10-8 in game two.

GAME ONE RECAP

Cadence Rieg and Brenna Westwood started the game offensively for the Hornets by getting on base. Paige Eagleton reached on a fielder's choice and later stole second, setting up a two-RBI single by Makalya Cox. Three batters later, Ella Montgomery put SU up 3-0 with a sacrifice fly, which scored Cox.

After the Maroons added a run in the third, SU came out and extended its lead. Keagan Cooper plated the first run of the inning for SU with an RBI single through the left side, while Sarah Medellin added another sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rieg added the team's third sacrifice fly of the ballgame to make it 6-1, following a single by Allison McQueeney and a stolen base. The Maroons cut their deficit down to four in the fifth.

Brenna Westwood was able to add an insurance run in the sixth, putting SU up 7-2 with a single to right field.

Gracie Ravenkamp (13-3) pitched a complete game. The first year allowed zero earned runs and had one strikeout.

Westwood and Cox had multi-hit games and Cox also led the team with two RBI.

GAME TWO RECAP

The first two and a half innings went in the Maroons favor as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead. After scoring a run in the first, the visitors added six two-out runs in the third. Brenna Westwood put Shenandoah on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI single.

Just before Westwood's RBI, Cadence Rieg hit a double to center field for her 100th career hit.

The Maroons went down in order in the fourth, allowing Sarah Medellin to hit a two-out solo home run to cut SU's deficit down to five. That was the senior's first home run of the season.

Roanoke went back up by seven with a two-out two-run home run in the fifth, but SU returned the favor in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot by Rieg.

In the bottom of the seventh, with SU now down 10-4, Ella Montgomery and Allison McQueeney each were walked to start the inning. A Roanoke error allowed Montgomery to score and kept zero outs on the board.

Westwood and Paige Eagleton got back-to-back RBI, making it 10-7, and Medellin added a two-out double to cut SU's deficit down to two, 10-8. However, with the tying run at second and the go-ahead run at the plate, the Hornets flew out to left field to end the game.

The Hornets head to Salem, Virginia, for the opening weekend of the ODAC Tournament. The Hornets are in pod two for the opening weekend and face the seventh-seeded Averett Cougars on Friday. Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater College are also in the double-elimination pod with SU and AU.
